Cosmos
A Designer's Design

Cosmos is the first pattern to be released in a series that shares the same custom capabilities.
Cosmos is not just a tile series—it's a architectural tool crafted by a designer, for designers. Born from the collaboration between David Meckley and FACT, Cosmos was created to provide an out-of-the-box solution that allows for creative freedom while working within standardized systems. Its purpose is to give designers the flexibility to push boundaries without the complexity of custom products.

What makes Cosmos stand out is its simplicity and versatility. Using a standard 2x2 ceiling grid, the series features six modular tiles that can be arranged to create endless combinations. This empowers designers to experiment, manipulate, and transform spaces in ways that standard grids don’t typically allow. The ease of working with these tiles enables designers to focus on crafting spaces that feel unique and expressive. Inspired by mid-century modern aesthetics and the cosmos itself, the tile patterns are both organized and seemingly random, offering a playful "organized chaos" that feels intentional and adaptable.
Cosmos was designed to let designers craft environments that evolve with the space. It’s about making creativity accessible while using a standardized product.

Grid ceiling tiles are prevalent in design for practical reasons allowing easy access to the ceiling, fit well in spaces with height limitations, and work well with other ceiling components. If you're working with existing grid frameworks, Cosmos offers a straightforward update that maintains functionality while refreshing the aesthetic.
From David’s perspective, the magic of Cosmos lies not only in its appearance but in the experience it creates. As you move through the space, the tiles’ three-dimensional qualities shift and reveal new perspectives, making each interaction with the environment dynamic—much like the cosmos itself.
