Squire Patton Boggs

The relocation of Squire Patton Boggs’ San Francisco office started with a high-level pre-design process that included a qualitative and quantitative programming incorporating sustainable design goals as a key element integral to both. As a LEED-CI Gold certified interior at its new location, the office is to be the first LEED project within the building. The design solution reuses more than 60% of the existing construction. While most staff workspaces are placed along the exterior walls with access to views and natural daylight, new glazed openings were cut into the corridor wall to bring natural light and views to the interior. Leveraging public space for large and small gatherings was important in supporting client and community events that the firm hosts frequently. A multi-purpose room offers scalable space for training and client seminars. Large sliding doors allow the room to open to the adjacent public space for assemblies and parties, while interior folding walls divide the space for smaller functions. Enhancements in lighting design, use of LED task lighting and ENERGYSTAR equipment reduce energy consumption. Sustainable materials including FSC-certified eucalyptus and cherry veneer panels along with thoughtful reuse of the limestone floors remain in the reception area. Through careful repurposing of the prebuilt space, the result is a clean and modern office that reflects Squire Sanders’ diverse practice and global identity.
